Eternal Weekend Returns for 2022

October 24, 2022
Wizards of the Coast

Legacy and Vintage enthusiasts, mark your calendars! In-person Eternal Weekend events are returning to Asia and North America, and Magic Online will be hosting an Eternal Weekend event digitally for those who cannot attend in person!

Eternal Weekend is, well, what the name suggests: a weekend full of Eternal play. Eternal Weekend events play host to two championship tournaments:

  • The Legacy Championship
  • The Vintage Championship

Eternal Weekend has, for years, carried on its tradition of providing winners with a unique prize: an original painting of an iconic card from either Legacy or Vintage awarded to the champion of each format's respective tournament. That painting is included in an oversized Magic: The Gathering card frame, providing the winner with both the painting and special frame to go along with it. The paintings are unique to each respective tournament, meaning no one Legacy Championship or Vintage Championship will feature the same painting, even if cards are revisited in subsequent years.

This year, however, prizes will be expanded to include all Top 8 competitors with coveted promos featuring cards iconic to the formats.

The Top 8 players for each Legacy Championship this year, regardless of location, will receive a special non-foil Ponder with the retro frame treatment and artwork from Julie Dillon.

The Top 8 players from each Vintage Championship this year, regardless of location, will receive a special non-foil Gush with the retro frame treatment and artwork from Sam White.

Magic Online Eternal Weekend

Hosted by Daybreak Games through Magic Online on December 10–11

Please Note: Due to scheduling challenges, the Eternal Weekend slated to take place in Europe this year was moved to a digital event. As with in-person Eternal Weekend events being open to anyone to participate who attends, the Magic Online Eternal Weekend event will be open to anyone who has a full account on Magic Online.

A virtual version of Eternal Weekend will take place for those who cannot attend the other events in person. Each event will be one day in length and will start at 1 a.m. PT (that's 4 a.m. ET, or 10:00 CET). These events will be open to join starting Wednesday, December 7, at 10 a.m. PT, and each will have a capacity limit of 672 players.

Each event will have entry options of 20 Event Tickets or 200 Play Points. Please note that Eternal Weekend in 2022 is not an All-Access event, and players will be required to submit a deck using cards that are in their collection.

The Legacy Championship will take place on Saturday, December 10. The winner of the Legacy Championship on Magic Online will receive The Tabernacle at Pendrall Vale trophy with artwork from Milivoj Ćeran.

The Vintage Championship will take place on Sunday, December 11. The winner of the Vintage Championship will receive the Ancestral Recall trophy with artwork from Volkan Baga.

Top 8 players of the Legacy Championship on Magic Online will also receive a physical version of the Ponder promo. Likewise, the Top 8 players from the Vintage Championship on Magic Online will also receive the physical version of the Gush promo. Additional digital prizes will be provided down to 64th place.

Please note that receipt of any physical prizes will require recipients to submit additional information to Daybreak Games for the facilitation of shipment of physical goods to them.
