Previously, we announced that we were updating the Day 2 match structure for Qualifier Weekends to be the first to 7 wins or 3 losses—whichever comes first. Due to development time required for the MTG Arena December game update, we are unable to implement this event change in time for the December Kaldheim Qualifier Weekend.
While we look forward to this change for the January Kaldheim Qualifier Weekend, we will be making the following adjustments to the December Kaldheim Qualifier Weekend—taking place December 19 and 20—to continue offering additional gem prizes and Kaldheim Championship invitations:
- Eligible players who reach six (6) or seven (7) wins will receive an invitation to compete in the Kaldheim Championship.
- Players who reach seven (7) wins will receive a unique one-time use code that can be redeemed for an additional 5,000 gems. The code will be emailed to them directly within 3–5 business days as part of the eligibility verification process upon earning an invitation.
We lowered the win requirement to fulfill the spirit of our planned changes for future Qualifier Weekends which invites more competitors than before. For players who reach seven wins, we felt their achievement merited an additional reward for their efforts after earning their invitation in the December Qualifier Weekend.
Since these adjustments will not be viewable in-game, we will contact qualified players directly to ensure they are aware of this update and have updated the December Kaldheim Qualifier Weekend information to reflect these changes.
Thank you for your understanding as we kick off the first Kaldheim Qualifier Weekend of the 2020–21 season.
