Uncover treasure and an undiscovered world in a familiar plane: The Lost Caverns of Ixalan is coming soon and there are plenty of ways to experience the land of dinosaurs, merfolk, pirates, vampires, and a few new surprises in this new set at a local game store near you!
Prerelease: November 10-16
Friday, November 10, is when dinosaurs and more will be stomping their way through local game stores worldwide, and it'll be your first chance to explore The Lost Caverns of Ixalan at a Prerelease event.
Prerelease Packs for The Lost Caverns of Ixalan have all you need for your expedition into unknown waters:
- 6 The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Draft Boosters
- A foil-stamped rare or mythic rare from the set
- A 20-sided spindown
- A code for Magic: The Gathering Arena
Prerelease Packs give you a solid first experience with the set's mechanics and more, letting you build around and play with the themes and cards of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan in a fun-filled, 40-card experience.
Most WPN retailers host these events as either a traditional Swiss-style tournament—meaning you play in each round, win or lose, for as many rounds as you would like for the duration of the event, with prizes awarded by the organizer at the end of the event. Prereleases tend to have a flat reward structure, meaning that prizes are spread out across finishers so that players all walk away happy. Note that each WPN retailer may have a different breakdown of rewards or may allow for a more freeform play event, so check with your local retailer for all the specifics.
Magic's 30th anniversary promo campaign isn't done yet either! Players may be able to snag one of these cards at The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Prerelease:
Please note that Dragonlord Atarka is a rare 30th Anniversary promo than the other cards available during the The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Prerelease. Additionally, each WPN retailer may have different methods for awarding these promos, so check with your local store for how you might be able to get one of these at your nearest Prerelease.
And a little louder for those of you in the back of the caverns. You can purchase ALL products from the new set at a WPN retailer during Prerelease. That includes Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander decks, you name it, and it's available for purchase ahead of the global release.
So, head on in to your local shop, get your first taste of the The Lost Caverns of Ixalan during Prerelease, and take some products from the new set home while you're at it!
Open House: November 17-19
Magic, just like exploring uncharted depths, is better with a friend. Bring a friend who's new to Magic, or make new friends, for The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Open House event at a WPN retailer near you November 17–19!
Open House is a great time to bring to your game store that friend of yours who's been wanting to learn how to play Magic where they can discover what Magic has to offer. Local game stores will have flexibility in how they run this event. They can offer Starter Kit events or Jumpstart, perfect options for a player just looking to get started with how to play. The goal of the Open House is to give new players the chance to discover the fun of Magic and retailers the flexibility to provide an entry point to Magic that works for the local community.
Participants who use a Wizards Account to sign up and play in Open House will receive a retro frame Ravenous Chupacabra promo while supplies last.
Dino-Sized December: All Month Long
Celebrate the The Lost Caverns of Ixalan and the full year of Magic releases with Dino-Sized December!
During Dino-Sized December, stores will be running four-pack Draft or seven-pack Sealed events using a mix of releases going back to Dominaria United. Events will be run as Chaos, meaning the Draft or Sealed experience will be comprised of a mixture of Draft Boosters.
Please note that Dino-Sized December is only available in some markets. WPN retailers in North America, EMEA, and select countries in the Asia-Pacific region are eligible to participate and to receive additional product for supporting these Draft and Sealed events.

Store Championship: December 2–10
The Store Championship is undergoing a change starting with The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, but the prize promos and full-art showcases will continue!
Starting with this round, the Store Championship will be a Standard Constructed-only event, allowing WPN retailers the ability to crown one player each round the ruler of the local Standard Constructed scene. Bring your best Standard decks to battle, and you may walk away with a special full-art textless version of a recognizable blue legendary from Innistrad.
As is customary, all WPN retailers will receive promo card support to spice up their Store Championship. Participants will receive a non-foil copy of Cauldron Familiar (while supplies last).
Finish in the Top 8 of your store, and walk home with a promo version of Dark Petition:
Show your local community that you're the best Standard player at the store, and you'll score a full-art textless version of Lier, Disciple of the Drowned!
Dive into the deep of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Standard, show your community what you've got, and you may become your store's champion! Go on. Do it for Lier.
Or, at the very least, do it for the kitty-cat.
Commander Party: December 15–17
What better way to wind down your 2023 and a year's worth of WPN play than with a party?
The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander Party brings WPN stores worldwide one final event in 2023 to bring Commander players together for an afternoon or evening of thrilling Commander play featuring a new host of faction cards and another layer of excitement to spice up your typical game.
Participants in this round of Commander Parties will get a retro frame copy of Unclaimed Territory while supplies last. Note that WPN Premium stores will be awarding traditional foil copies of this promo. All other WPN retailers will be awarding non-foil copies.
So, mark your calendars, bring your friends, and get ready for a Commander Party at your local retailer in mid-September!
Regional Championship Qualifiers: Round 2 Ends December 17, Round 3 Begins January 6
Regional Championship Qualifiers (RCQs) for the 2023–24 season's second round will be wrapping up on December 17. Bring your best Modern deck or get ready for some Sealed Deck action and earn your qualification for the Regional Championships that take place starting January 19, 2024.
The participation Secret Lair promo for this round features none other than Jace ... as a cat, making you a very good offer that you just can't say no to. Also, the cat promo through line in this article is entirely coincidental. I swear.
Top finishers at RCQs in this qualifying round score a really slick copy of the Death's Shadow Secret Lair prize card.
While this round will be wrapping up on December 19, the third round—which qualifies for Pro Tour 3 in 2024—starts on January 6, 2024. Round 3 of this season will test your Standard Constructed skills as well as Limited. This also makes the The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Store Championship a good test run for your deck for the RCQs that begin in January!
The promos also swap over with Round 3. Participations who play in an RCQ will get a Secret Lair promo version of Explore while supplies last.
Meanwhile, top finishers at an RCQ get a new Secret Lair prize card variant of Expressive Iteration. Those who get a qualification for the Regional Championship get a traditional foil copy!
Ravnica Remastered Launch Party: January 12–14
And finally, while not quite The Lost Caverns of Ixalan themed, the release of Ravnica Remastered does wrap up a season of play before the release of Murders at Karlov Manor early in 2024.
Players can get a retro frame version of Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind by playing in a Draft or Sealed event using Ravnica Remastered product starting on the set's launch weekend while supplies last.
